My children enjoy me reading The Kissing Hand to them and have fallen in love with its main character, a sweet raccoon named Chester.   I was excited to learn of two other books by the same author, Audrey Penn: The Kiss Good-bye and A Pocket Full of Kisses.  The Kiss Good-bye touches upon topic relevant to many families – moving.  Chester’s family is forced to move from their tree and Chester is not too happy about leaving all that is familiar.   His mother uses a sweet, patient tone with him which gently easing his fears.  Of course, in the end Chester finds that new places can bring new adventures.

A POCKET FULL OF KISSES

My children enjoy me reading The Kissing Hand to them and have fallen in love with its main character, a sweet raccoon named Chester.   I was excited to learn of two other books by the same author, Audrey Penn: The Kiss Good-bye and A Pocket Full of Kisses.  In A Pocket Full of Kisses, Chester shares with his mother the frustration of having a little brother who always follows him and plays with his toys.  He also gets quite jealous when he sees his mother giving the baby a kissing hand.  His mother reassures him in her gentle way that she has enough love for the both of them.  And then, because he is the oldest she proceeds to give him a little something extra.  It is a great book for any family who has added to their numbers.
