OPEN DOORS
Sunday, May 31, 2009
It has been raining hard since Friday so unfortunately the mobile clinic was cancelled for Saturday.
As a way for the students to get to know each other’s host brothers and sisters, I invited them over for a movie. Almost 30 of us crammed into my tiny living room (I don’t think it would have fit one more person!) and watched The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in Spanish. The youth seemed to love it and I was again reminded at what a powerful message it carries. When it was over, Jeff presented the gospel to the group.
This morning at our prayer service, Tony and Jean’s (our teammates) living room was full. How wonderful to see some of the host siblings there for the first time!
These students have a unique opportunity to learn about Paraguayans and their culture. They get to become a daughter/son, sister/brother in a Paraguayan family for a month. They basically have an open invitation to share the love of Jesus any time the opportunity presents itself. One student has already read the Sermon on the Mount with her family and two others bought Guarani Bibles for their families today. Two Paraguayans saw their siblings reading the Bible and they went to get theirs to read too. These Paraguayan families will always remember the American who came to stay with them. My prayer is that they will also always remember that the American showed them how to love Jesus more.
This evening we had a devotional time with the group focusing on God’s faithfulness. Our teammates, Dan and Sarah Hough, from Caazapa (one hour away) came to meet the team and give their testimony of God’s faithfulness in leading them here. Then the students each shared one way that God had proven himself faithful to them this week since entering Paraguay. How wonderful the body of Christ is!
