TRAPICHE

This is a trapiche (I have no idea what it is called in English) and it is used for making molasses and liquor – big businesses here. Two horses are hooked up to either end. As they walk in a circle, it moves the wooden wheels in the center. As the wheels are moving someone stands in the center and feeds sugar cane stalks through. As the stalks are crushed, the sugar liquid runs down a trough, through a hole in the wood and into a bucket hung on a nail.
